About Chantal Jane

Growing up, I struggled with the way I looked. I would sit in front of the mirror, putting makeup on, taking it off and starting again, trying to change the shape of my face into something I thought was more beautiful. Somewhere in those hours of experimenting, alongside an endless education through YouTube, I began to understand colour, proportion, texture and the extraordinary things makeup could do.

It taught me how to apply makeup. But the years that followed taught me something much more important: how to see beauty differently.

Today, I don’t believe beauty is found in making every face conform to the same ideal. I find it in the qualities that make a face unmistakably its own. In character and expression. In the way somebody’s face moves when they laugh. And, beyond anything we can paint or photograph, in who that person is and the way they make others feel.

That has fundamentally shaped the artist I have become.

I’m Chantal Jane Yeung, a freelance makeup artist based in Staffordshire, with over 15 years of experience across editorial, commercial, red carpet, events and bridal beauty.

When someone sits in my chair, I don’t begin by looking for what I can correct. I want to understand what is already there. Sometimes my role is to bring those qualities forward — beautiful skin, considered detail and makeup that allows someone to feel completely themselves. At other times, particularly in editorial work, makeup becomes a language of its own: colour, texture and form can transform a face, communicate an idea or reveal something unexpected about the person wearing it.​​​
